‘PADDLE2LIVE’ EXPEDITION ARRIVES HOME AUGUST 19TH
PUBLIC ATTENDANCE TO WELCOMING EVENT ENCOURAGED

NEWPORT BEACH, CA - After 10 days at sea, travelling 300+ nautical miles the Paddle2Live™ and Junior Watermen Academy crew will arrive home to Newport Harbor on Sunday, August 19th at 2:30 p.m. Friends, family and members of the paddling community are invited to join them at the turning basin and paddle to the Newport Sea Base, and to the celebration to follow.
The expedition is part of a joint effort by Paddle2Live™ and The Newport Aquatic Center(501 C 3), which joined up to launch the Junior Waterman Academy, a cross-water sport program whose goal is to educate and train young individuals in a variety of water sport disciplines and assist in implementing those skills in a variety of expeditions across the United States and internationally.
The expedition, lead by Paddle2Live founder and cancer survivor Jack Marshall Shimko, will depart from Channel Islands National Park, Point Conception, CA, on August 10th at 8 A.M., and will paddle for 10 days, through the Channel Islands before reaching Newport Beach.
Shimko originally founded Paddle2Live (www.paddle2live.org), a non-profit cancer fundraiser, to raise money and awareness for advanced cancer research and treatment. “It’s great to be able to use my own survival to inspire young people to get out, to get active and to live their dreams.”
The teen members of The Junior Waterman Expedition are Jack Bark, 18; Sofia DeWolfe,17; Cory Fults,19; Bruce Schwartz, 18; Cora Wolfe,18; and Mikayla Hart, 17.
A welcome home celebration party will follow the arrival at The Newport Beach Sea Base, 1931 West Coast Highway at 3 P.M. in Newport Beach, and the public is invited to join the group for this festive and philanthropic night. Paddle2Live™ is an adventure based brand that uses water sports and the ocean to better the world, promote health, fitness, educate and inspire young individuals to lead healthy, active and adventurous lives. Jack Marshall Shimko, Newport Beach native and founder of Paddle2Live™ was diagnosed with cancer three years ago on his 29th birthday. He chose to fight his cancer with his favorite sport of paddle boarding, to date paddling thousands of miles in the open ocean in order to raise awareness and hundreds of thousands of dollars for foundations such as Livestrong, UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, the John Wayne Cancer Foundation and the Newport Aquatic Center.
