The Junior Waterman Academy

This year Paddle2Live™ and The Newport Aquatic Center (501 C 3) (NAC) have teamed up to launch a new NAC program. The Paddle2Live™ Junior Waterman Academy will educate and train young individuals in a variety of water sport disciplines and assist in implementing those skills in a variety of expeditions across the United States and internationally. Our objective is simple: to educate and assist young individuals to be the most healthy, active and adventurous watermen and waterwomen that they can be.

The Paddle2Live™ Mission

Paddle2Live™ is an adventure based brand that uses water sports and the ocean to better the world, promote health, fitness, educate and inspire young individuals to lead healthy, active and adventurous lives. Jack Marshall Shimko, Newport Beach native and founder of Paddle2Live™ was diagnosed with cancer three years ago on his 29th birthday. He chose to fight his cancer with his favorite sport of paddle boarding, to date paddling thousands of miles in the open ocean in order to raise awareness and hundreds of thousands of dollars for foundations such as Livestrong, UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, the John Wayne Cancer Foundation and the Newport Aquatic Center.

The Paddle2Live™ Junior Waterman Expedition

Who: The Paddle2Live™ Team & select NAC Junior Waterman (ages 16-19).

What: A team of Waterman and Junior Waterman will set sail for a 10 day, 400 nautical mile, cross-water sport expedition spanning the Channel Islands off the California coastline. Disciplines will include: Traditional Paddle Boarding, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Outrigger Canoe, Canoe Sailing, Surfing, Free Diving, Snuba, Fishing, Navigation, Open Ocean Safety and an extensive Channel Islands National Park educational curriculum.

Where: Channel Islands National Park- Point Conception to Newport Beach, California

When: August 10th-19th, 2012 / ACTION STARTS online August 10th

Why: To Live! And to live life to the fullest! To launch, fundraise, and rally community support for our new NAC / Paddle2Live™ Junior Waterman Academy which educates, inspires and assists young individuals to lead the most healthy, athletic and adventurous lives as possible in, on and under the water.
